The Borough of Interlaken encourages its residents to be prepared for an emergency by having and maintaining a home and travel first aid kit.
A well-stocked medicine chest or first aid kit should contain a variety of items at all times. It should be checked at least every three months for expiration dates and supplies replenished as they are used. Another kit should be in the car for emergencies on the road.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF YOUNG CHILDREN
Make sure your home and travel emergency kits are kept out of reach of children at all times.
THE EQUIPMENT
Some suggestions to include in a first aid kit, but not limited to are: scissors, tweezers, thermometer, ice packs, syringe, oral medications, disposable gloves, assortment of bandages, gauze pads, adhesive tape, assortment of elastic bandages, cotton balls, and swabs.
SOLUTIONS AND MEDICATIONS
Some suggestions to also include in a first aid kit, but not limited to are: eyewash solutions, antiseptic or antibiotic ointments, aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cough suppressant, antihistamines, and decongestants.
ROTATE AND REPLENISH STOCK
Emergency kit items should be replenished after use. Also remember, they will expire. Check the dates on the packages and replace if expired.
TREAT AND THEN SEEK PROFESSIONAL CARE
Always seek professional medical attention.

It is always a good idea to include all emergency contacts and phone numbers handy in your kit. Don't forget to include the phone number for the poison control center. Things like flashlights, matches, candles, blankets, extra batteries, water bottles, can also be included.
