THE STORY OF THE LEGAL SEAL OF THE BOROUGH OF INTERLAKEN

It has been reported, soon after Interlaken had been orga¬nized on June 26, 1922, it was found that an official legal seal was needed on certain occasions. Mr. W.H.D. Koerner, famous artist and a charter member of the new Borough Council was delegated to render an appropriate drawing from which a seal could be engraved. One day while looking out the east window of his art studio at 205 Grasmere Avenue, pondering over a suitable design for the seal, his gaze fell upon a little pine tree in the wooded lot next door. "There," he thought, "How appropriate for Interlaken, which has so many lovely pine trees through¬out the borough. This little tree there in the woods will,
like our new community, grow to be fine and stately in the years to come." So, the little pine tree became our official legal seal, still in use today on the Borough's im¬portant documents.
